Just in Time in Manufacturing
Workforce Solutions Alamo (WSA) works to bring together people and jobs in a 12-county region across South Texas, by providing solutions and resources for both businesses and job seekers. As it works to build a premier workforce with the skills needed for Alamo-area employers to gain a competitive edge in the global economy, WSA hopes to share with the community information that will inform, prepare and provide for that objective.← Involved in hiring for your organization? Orientation sessions for potential participants are planned for Oct. 15 and 17, and a session for interested employers will be scheduled for January. A new website will also be launched soon. Meanwhile anyone interested in looking at manufacturing opportunities in the workplace or employers interested in participating in this new program to bring more people into the manufacturing workforce, can call either 210-923-4092 or 210-845-5361.
Workforce Solutions Alamo will screen candidates and fund the training, and employers can receive tax credits to partially reimburse wages for graduates hired for on-the-job training. The training program will address local manufacturing skills needed including assembly and production operations, machining, facility equipment maintenance, industry control systems and manufacturing technology. The first class of 25 will be trained in either assembly production or machining. The San Antonio region’s more than 1,500 manufacturing companies have as many as 2,500 openings for a variety of manufacturing jobs according to the San Antonio Manufacturers Association.
