With the economy shift the US has most of its work force employed in the service sector. This is because we are competing Globally and losing most of the time in manufacturing. There are lots of reasons we do not make nearly as much in this nation as we use too. And many reasons why there are fewer jobs in manufacturing than there were some 30-years ago. Much is due to robotics and automation, but most is due to cheaper labor elsewhere as well.

Service Industry Exports - It's Time For the US to Move Ahead

With the economy shift the US has most of its work force employed in the service sector. This is because we are competing Globally and losing most of the time in manufacturing. There are lots of reasons we do not make nearly as much in this nation as we use too. And many reasons why there are fewer jobs in manufacturing than there were some 30-years ago. Much is due to robotics and automation, but most is due to cheaper labor elsewhere as well.
Since the US is so good at the service sector, shouldn't we be exporting our abilities and services world-wide? We have know-how, consulting ability and we as Americans can get things done. We have an educated society and we know the service sector perhaps better than any other nation on Earth. Thus, we ought to concentrate on Service Industry Exports. It's time for the United States to move ahead in the service industry.
And we have a pretty good start. For instance, we have oil drilling and services firms working all over the world. We have consultants that work globally and we are finding that the World really needs our services these days, so let us expand these sectors and capitalize on our abilities. Luckily, at the present time our US Dollar is low against other currencies, which is a little bit of an advantage, still it is not enough to hold up our manufacturing sector. However, if we export services, technical know-how and consulting, then theoretically would bring some of those trade deficit dollars back to the states!
