Council approved the launch of the new online directory, available through Your Local Marketplace or the Town of Innisfil websites, during a meeting last week. The directory is being hosted by YLM, but features a unique social media-style for participating businesses.
Once registered, those businesses will be able to maintain and update their own listings regularly, with up-to-date driving directions, links to websites or social media pages, uploaded images and logos, customized messaging and lists of amenities.
"We are ready to go live with our new business directory," said economic development officer Rachel Sullivan. "We wanted to do this because of Inspiring Innisfil (2020). It supports local businesses, but also builds new networks to better connect our business community. If a business is input into the Innisfil directory, it will go into the County (of Simcoe) directory."
The directory meets several goals contained within Inspiring Innisfil, by promoting local businesses. But it also gives small and homebased companies, community organizations and services an opportunity to have a presence on the Internet, she said.
"You can actually go and add a lot more information as it comes," she said. "You can add all services provided, and social media sites. YLM has actually gone through and worked with Google to make sure keywords actually help the (business) move to the top (of the search). Any business that has a (technical support) question goes directly to YLM. It's free to any business (with an address) in Innisfil."
Through databases like Statistics Canada, YLM was able to obtain basic information about a number of businesses and community groups within Innisfil. Any business operator who already sees their company's name listed on the website can contact Breedon, to obtain a username and password.
The workshops are open to everyone in the community, but participants are asked to please bring a laptop or tablet, if possible. Space as limited, so participants are asked to register in advance by e-mailing rbreedon@innisfil.ca or calling 705-436- 3710.
Hi there. This is a news article on the establishment of the directory. The directory is being created by the Town of Innisfil. The Scope has no affiliation with the town. For more information on the directory, visit the town's website, www.innisfil.ca, or use the contact information listed in the article.
